New Peer Mentoring Program for Students At-Risk

The Peer Mentoring program is a new effort at Appalachian designed to encourage success and persistence among students who are at academic risk for leaving Appalachian. Through the mentoring relationship and the services offered by the program, students will be encouraged to get more involved with campus life, improve academic performance, and manage personal problems affecting their success. Beth Marsh (marsheg@appstate.edu) will be the Interim Director for this program.

Successes on Other Campuses

Through our research, we have attempted to understand why some students are successful while others leave and never graduate. The articles and links below were helpful in better understanding student persistence in college. Some include programmatic efforts on other campuses that have had a positive effect on student achievement.

Compass for Strategic Plan

2008 Strategic Plan

Follow the progress as the Strategic Planning Commission team members in conjunction with campus constituents work toward our new strategic plan. Excerpt from Dr. Ken Peacock's Fall 2006 charge:

"The development of a shared vision for Appalachian at this pivotal time in our history is an essential and difficult task. A successful outcome requires involvement and contribution from students, faculty, staff, and members of the communities that we serve. I encourage you to participate in the various public an electronic forums that will be held throughout the year. I have asked the council to present a final draft of the report to the University community by January 1, 2008"
